Thrift Store: Monday-Saturday 10am to 4pm | Donation Center: Tuesday & Thursday 10am to 2pm
Food Pantry: Monday-Friday 10am to 4pm
Needed Volunteer Hours:
Monday – Saturday 10am-4pm

Volunteer Positions Needed:
Food Pantry
-Pantry Assistant (Packing pre-made distribution bags, unpacking and organizing food donations, cleaning & organizing pantry)
-Food Packer (Packing rice, beans & cereal for distribution)
-Food Rescuer (Picks up and delivers food from partners to House of Mercy and vice versa)

Thrift Store
-Merchandiser (keep store tidy, put away incoming priced donations, assist customers as needed)
 -Cashier (Help check out customers and manage the front end of the store)
– Door Attendant (manage customers & clients as they come to store, welcome them, make sure they are wearing PPE, etc.)
– Cleaner & Organizer (clean & organize Thrift Store on off days)

Donation Center
– Customer Service (man the donation bins when open, provide receipts for donors, excellent customer service skills needed)
– Donation Processer (sort, organize, price donations)

– Admin (answer phones, scanning/filing, other tasks as assigned)

New Guidelines
– All volunteers will be required to wear face coverings (provided on their own) and gloves (provided by us)
– All volunteers will be required to report any sickness and not come in (If they have had any contact with family/friends who are sick, they must report and stay home as well)
– All volunteers must maintain 6ft of social distancing while at HOM
– Frequently touched locations will be cleaned hourly.
-All ages are welcome. Ages 16 and below MUST be accompanied by a parent/guardian. A consent form must be signed and submitted for anyone aged 17 and below.  Download form here.
– Any conflicts should be handled by full-time employees only (Jessica, Von, Sophia)

– Signing in for your shift while on site will be different. Training will occur upon arrival.

Food Pantry

Food Pantry volunteers assist with organizing food donations, packing bags and carts of food for distribution, re-packaging rice & beans, cleaning, preparing food for mobile food pantry distribution and other duties as needed.

  • In-person, inside building service but will arrange for contact-less, outside service if client phones in advance
  • As of July 1, registration is required
  • Distribution of food and clothing assistance
  • Clients can receive food assistance every two weeks
  • All donations can be dropped off at the Food Pantry Receiving Door as usual
  • Education program currently suspended

Thrift Store

Have a knack for displaying merchandise and keeping a store clean & organized? Join the thrift store volunteer team! Help by merchandising the store – put out new items for sale and clean out the old items that haven’t sold;  keep the shopping area looking spotless; be the face of House of Mercy by working the register and much more!

  • All customers must wear face coverings (provided on their own) and gloves (provided by us)
  • All children ages 10+ must be encouraged to wear face coverings
  • Only 50% capacity will be allowed in the store at a time (customers are subject to wait in line outside)
  • If there is a line outside, shopping times may be limited
  • Customers must maintain social distancing of 6 ft while in-store and in line outside
  • Volunteers will be stationed in the store to make sure customers keep gloves and masks on at all times
  • All carts will be wiped or sprayed after each use

    Donation Center

    If you love organization and customer service, this is the job for you! Join our Donation Center volunteer team to accept new donations, sort incoming donations and prepare them for sale in the store.

    • All donations must be bagged.
    • We are only accepting clothing and household items that can fit in regular trash bags. No boxes, furniture, or larger items at this time
    • We will not accept items after hours in the blue bins at this time
    • Items will be dropped off outside in Gaylord by donor
    • Receipts may be given if requested. Receipts will be written by volunteers, not patrons.
    • We will place a gaylord outside the front door (directly inside on rainy days), the customer will drop their items in the gaylord and once it is full, it will be switched for another empty one.
    • All gaylords will be labeled according to the day donated and they will be quarantined for 72 hours in a set location in the donation center.
    • Volunteers will be limited per shift working in different areas. Shifts will be limited.
    • A new floor plan has been created for rotating quarantined items

      Client Services

      Client services includes intake for new clients, food and clothing distribution, and working with the Food Pantry database. If you have a working knowledge of Spanish, that is helpful but not required. This is a great way to assist those in need and work directly with our clients. Training provided. 

      Most needed time slots: 

      11:00-1:00 pm Monday – Friday


      Food Pick up/Mobile Pantry

      Want to volunteer but aren’t able to work onsite? Join our Food Pick Up or Mobile Pantry team. You will be responsible for driving food to or from one of our partner sites. 

      Most needed time slots:  

      9:00-11:00 am Monday-Thursday 



      Service Hours

      Need service hours for confirmation or school? House of Mercy offers food packing service hours every Saturday from 10am – 2pm in our food pantry. Anyone ages 13-adult can attend. No RSVP required. Check our website calendar for any schedule changes.
