It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Doris Chan. Doris passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2023. She had been a valued member of our team since January 2021, and is greatly missed. Please keep Doris family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time.
Doris’ family has decided to have a small family service in Texas, where her parents reside. We have been collecting cards in the House of Mercy breakroom to send to her parents in a few weeks.
House of Mercy will have a memorial Mass at 9:00 am on Friday, October 6th, followed by a reception in the Grotto area of the Thrift Store (8170 Flannery Court, Manassas, VA). House of Mercy will remain closed for that morning and will open late at 1:00 pm (including the Thrift Store, Donation Center and Food Pantry) so that all staff, volunteers, partners, customers, donors and clients can attend the service if they wish. All are welcome.
As a permanent reminder of Doris’ presence and dedication to the House of Mercy mission, we would like to purchase and engrave a bench to be placed outside of the Food Pantry. We are currently collecting contributions until the end of the memorial on October 6th to help purchase this bench. If you would like to contribute, please contact Jessica Root at
jroot@houseofmercyva.org. Once we have made the purchase, if there are any leftover funds, we will utilize them directly for the Food Pantry.
